Mao and the PGB

Gulu LC5 chairman Norbert Mao entertains no nonsense. While he was being driven into Gulu airfield to welcome the President Horst Kohler of germany, the Presidential Guard Brigade (PGB) last week blocked his vehicle. It seems the PGB did not know Mao and his business at the airfield. “Why are you stopping us?” Instead of answering, the PGB directed the driver to drive in the opposite direction. Fortunately, some senior PGB officers heard Mao shouting and rushed to his rescue. “If you don’t want us to come here we can go and do other things,” Mao assured them. He was allowed through.

Police in spotlight

While commissioning books published for primary schools at the Uganda Human Rights Commission state minister for primary education Gabriel Opio raised a good point.“It is important to start learning human rights issues at an early stage,” he said. he then took a swipe at Police officers about the way they arrest people. “When they get you, they pull your trousers up, they manhandle you and pull it up,” Opio said demonstrating how the officers handle
suspects.

Premier irked

Prime minister Apolo Nsibambi has expressed shock that people have been saying that he ran away to South Africa while the Land Amendment Bill 2007 was being tabled in Parliament. “That must have been a useless joke,” Nsibambi told Parliament. “When a bill is tabled for the first reading it is not necessary for me or the Vice President to be present. “I want to inform the House and the country at large that I went to South Africa for medical check up and I am back now. I am perfectly healthy now,” he said.

Col promoted

Army officers were recently promoted and each was expected to come with his wife to decorate him with on one set of the pips on one shoulder. Brig. Charles Otema Awany is known to be a ladies’ man with many wives. The officer who was promoted from a colonel and posted to head the 2nd Infantry Division in Mbarara came with a very pregnant wife which caused a lot of excitement among the army officers. “You are not only active in the field but also at home,” shouted one of the senior officers.
