SYLVIA Namugenyi is lucky. Just three years since she joined the music industry, the 25-year-old has released three successful albums. Her first album in 2005, entitled Kissebo, brought Namugenyi to the limelight, while her second album, Mukazi Mufumbo, boosted her popularity even further.

Early Man, her latest album, is a seven-track effort. Songs on this album include Kamusanyuse, Ombererawo and Boss Mpowa.

On the same album, Namugenyi gives her fans three gospel songs; Tendereza Mukama, Mukama Y’asinga and Nga Tonnafa.

The songs, especially Early Man, are already getting reasonable air-play on Kampala FM stations and Early Man is proving to be the listeners’ favourite, judging from the number of times it is requested for on radio.

“That girl has a bright musical future. When I listened to her latest hit, Early Man, it really took me time to believe it was her singing. More so, the voice in the song is good,” says Maureen Nantume, a fellow singer with the Eagles Production Band.

Namugenyi’s producer, Ronnie Griffin Nkoyooyo, says: “I believe she is destined for bigger things this year. She may even be nominated for a number of categories in the PAM Awards”.

Namugenyi says: “I wrote all the gospel songs on the album and got assistance from different people, especially my producer, Nkoyooyo, with the other songs.

In the song Early Man, Namugenyi is bitter about ‘her husband’ who is not satisfying her with love. She goes ahead to tell the man that such behaviour is out-dated in this day and age.

All the songs are done in a band style and have a rich message, especially in line with domestic problems, many music lovers relate to.

Namugenyi, who draws her music inspirations from Mariam Ndagire, says: “Five years to come, I am already seeing myself with over five albums to my name and quite big in terms of fame in the region.”
