A bobaboda cyclist was on Saturday killed from the resident district commissioner’s (RDC) home at Kijungu in Hoima town. The mid-western regional Police commander, Martin Abiru, identified the dead as Godfrey Kyaligonza.

Blood was found under a tree in Martha Asiimwe’s compound and Kyaligonza’s body was dumped in a pit latrine. His motorcycle was abandoned at Kobil filling station, a few meters away from Asiimwe’s home.

According to the Police, Asiimwe and her bodyguards were in Kampala by the time the murder occurred.

The Police retrieved the body from the latrine on Sunday. Asiimwe’s neighbours told The New vision that they heard one gun shot at around 8:30pm on Saturday night.

Kyaligonza’s colleagues said a man, who pretended to be a passenger, hired him from Shell stage at 8:00pm on Saturday. The acting district Police commander, David Kauta, said the killer shot Kyaligonza from a close range.

He added that Asiimwe’s driver and shamba boy had recorded statements at Hoima Police Station.

Kauta, who declined to disclose the driver’s name, said: “We have got some clues.”
