MAKERERE University wants suppliers for prequalification for provision of supplies, services and works in accordance with the procurement authority’s act.

Some of the university’s officials have recently been involved in a scandal of the collapsed perimeter wall, which the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) said was due to disregarding the PPDA Act.

Consequently, PPDA has recommended disciplinary action against Prof. David Bakibinga, the university’s deputy vice-chancellor in charge of finance and administration.

According to a procurement notice, www.mak.ac.ug: “Suitable bidders should submit pre-qualification submissions for assorted supplies as detailed in the bidding documents. The submissions will be evaluated in accordance with the PPDA Act. Submission is open to all.”

Bidders may get more information from the university’s head of the procurement and disposal unit. They may inspect the documents at his office or get details from the website.

Pre-qualification documents cost sh50,000 and the deadline for submission is February 26 to the acting senior procurement officer, PDU, at Lincoln Flats A5 at the university.

Pre-qualification of bidders is among the recommendations of the PPDA for organisations, which conduct procurements worth substantial amounts of money.

Many organisations have been reluctant to follow the PPDA Act, which seeks to let procurement specialists operate without interference from institutional bosses who find procurement remunerative.
