NATIONAL women volleyball team coach Tonny Lakony has rejected an appointment to replace Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) sports organising commission chairman Hassan Sekajoolo.

Swalley Kenyi
reports that UVF president Tom Omongole told a poorly attended Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Lugogo on Saturday that he had sacked Sekajoolo and replaced him with Lakony.

UVF vice-president Nason Bwesigye confirmed Lakony’s decision and said that they were considering the federation’s vice chairman in charge of schools Ayub Kalifan.

But KCC women volleyball team coach Andrew Kalyegira has assumed his new UVF technical director’s office, replacing Eddie Okila who is serving a two-year suspension.

Omongole suspended Okila for disssent, and failing to account for the national team’s trip to the regional event in Sudan last year.

Omongole accused Sekajoolo of propagating hatred among clubs and mismanaging this year’s players’ transfer.

Days before the AGM, Sekajoolo had tendered in a resignation citing unfavourable working conditions. However Omongole insisted that he had just sacked him.

Lakony explained to The New Vision that he was too busy to take up what is arguably the federation’s most tasking job.

“I can’t see myself taking that post because I think it is fit for someone based in Kampala. Besides, I’m very busy and there are no other reasons for my decision,” said the Nkumba University student.

The sports organising commission is in charge of players’ transfers and managing all competitions on the volleyball federation calendar in the season.
