TAIBAH Schools have sunk sh4m into the third event on the Uganda Badminton Association calendar.

“Taibah Schools will continue supporting badminton,” said Oskar Semweya Muwanga, a principal at one of the Taibah Schools, at the launch yesterday of the tournament.

“We want to be known for excellency and to us sports is a very big ingredient to education,” Muwanga added.

The Taibah tournament will be held this weekend at Lugogo indoor stadium.

UBA tournament director Simon Mugabi said that he was delighted with The Taibah group’s commitment to the development of the sport among the youth especially at school level. Last year’s edition had 450 players from various schools around Kampala participating in the event. This year’s edition is expected to attract close to 800 boys and girls.

Thirty schools have so far registered for this edition and players will be vying for accolades in U-10, U-13, U-15, U-16 and U-18 crowns on both individual basis and team events.

UBA has so far held two events the Roofings International and the Aqua Sipi Badminton championships that where held in January and February respectively.
