MUKONO Town Council has joined the league of world Mayor’s For Peace (MFP) to avert and abolish use of nuclear weapons.

Johnson Muyanja, the LC3 chairman, said the move aims at creating inter-city solidarity transcending national boundaries and ideological differences to avert the re-occurrence of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki tragedies.
“We (Mukono) applied and are happy to have been accepted as a member,” he said recently.

The bloc, Muyanja said, would help Mukono gain skills in tackling crime. He said besides security, MFP embarks on finding lasting solutions to poverty and diseases that plague its 78-member countries.

Muyanja said Mukono had embarked on twinning relationships with foreign cities.
“We have entered a twinning relationship with Vimmerby city in Sweden,” he said.

Through a twinning relationship with Gran municipality of Norway, the Mukono Women kills Development Scheme was born.

The multi-million facility trains female school drop-outs in vocational skills like computer and tailoring.
