E.A players to mark 100 years of golf

LEADING professional golfers from Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania converge on Kitante course on Wednesday to compete in one of the events marking 100 years of the Uganda Golf Club.

LEADING professional golfers from Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania converge on Kitante course on Wednesday to compete in one of the events marking 100 years of the Uganda Golf Club.

The professionals’ event will tee off in the morning and will be followed by the Corporate tournament in the afternoon.

Uganda’s leading professionals Deo Akope (+11), Godfrey Mande (+8)and Denis Anguyo (+19) will try to make up for the disappointment at the Kenyan Open where they failed to make the cut on Friday. The cut was at +4.

The celebrations will conclude with a highly anticipated two-day centennial tournament on Friday.

Uganda Golf Club Centennial celebrations teed off in earnest with a seniors’ and Women tournament yesterday. Over 120 competitors including upcountry golfers took part in the 18-holes tournament.

The seniors’ tournament featured golfers of 55 years and above. Golfers below 55 years played in the subsidiary event of the 18 holes tournament.

Uganda Golf Club captain Okullo Odom said the historic event will also feature guests from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi and South Africa who will be in Kampala for the celebrations.

Other clubs which will join UGC in the celebrations have been offered three slots each in the Centennial tournament.
