But I will begin with a real story, one of the very last ones I intend to tell in my crusade against broadcasting rumours. It is about Boaz, though it could easily have been about you who belong to the active dating male-kind humans.
Armed with a girl he loved and wanted to impress, Boaz ran out of money when the night was still a toddler. They must have been at one of those places where a bottle of mineral water goes for sh5,000. The bad news about the available balance did not shake him because he had a back-up plan — his ATM card. He excused himself like he wanted to attend to serious business and raced to a nearby bank on a boda B.
Lesson: An ATM on a date is like Arsenal: Sometimes it relieves you, but there are times it can really disappoint you. Like it did that night by chewing his card. He went berserk. People around were lucky he was not General Kazini.
His phone was so light, with only enough airtime to get him a regret from the first SOS he tried. So, instead of standing deflated before his date, Boaz switched off his phone and went home to sleep. He remained in ‘exile’, off air, indoors, perhaps even under the bed, till Monday when he resurrected on the third day with a story about being arrested by Police Patrol . “I was dumped at CPS the whole weekend with no communication!†The girl swallowed it because even lawyers like Lukwago, when arrested on Friday, get released on Monday.
But imagine her face now as she reads this truth!
Being superman comes with a cost we all may not afford. Yet, being down to earth helps a lot without pick-pocketing any marks from you. One lady recently told me that she fell for her guy when he confessed amidst fundraising classmates for a campus outing that he had not even a coin in his bank account. “Men always want to speak big,†she told me. “By his statement, he impressed me as a truthful and confident guy who does not require a money platform to be seen as a man.â€

Pursuit of supermanhood may be a natural calling for all mankind, but when it pits you against what you hold dear; honesty, gentleness, integrity, patriotism, it becomes too big to swallow and the earlier you recognise this, the better. I don’t know what his girlie did, but I know she is a lesson for all womankind, taken for outings: Don’t just go empty pocketed. Carry some rescue funds in case your Boaz decides to pursue manhood.
Look at it this way; what if by presenting an exaggerated impression of you, you get a partner who loves that inflated hot air. And later, when the heat cools down and you cannot pretend anymore, she abandons ship because she is not in love with the real you? It certainly is better for her to fall for the real you if durability is part of the proposal.
