A UGANDAN, Celia Nalwadda, has been appointed a youth officer on the executive committee of the network of foresters in the Commonwealth.

“This gives me an opportunity to provide views on forestry related issues,” said Nalwadda, adding, “I will do this work besides my routine assignments.”

Nalwadda, who will serve a two-year term, works with the Saw Log Grant Scheme in Kampala. The body gives technical and financial support to tree investors.

She has been a regular contributor to the journal of the Commonwealth Forestry Association, especially on the proposed controversial conversion of Mabira forest into a sugarcane plantation by the Mehta Group.

“This is the reason I was appointed when the post of youth officer became vacant,” said Nalwada, who holds a BSc in forestry from Makerere University and a diploma in forest plantations from Helsinki University, Finland.

“Ugandans can not stand anyone who intends to cut down Mabira,” she added.
