FOUR city roads and nine junctions will be blocked to traffic today as Libyan President Col. Muammar Gadaffi opens the national mosque at Old Kampala.

According to acting commissioner for traffic and road safety, Steven Kasiima, the roads will be closed from 7:00am to 7:00pm.

They are Nakivubo Place, Kisenyi, Namirembe and Old Kampala, while the junctions are: Rashid Khamis-Namirembe, Martin-Namirembe and Kafumbe Mukasa-Kisenyi.

Others are Mackay-Namirembe, Ginnery-Old Kampala, Bakuli-Namirembe and Sir Apollo Kaggwa-Old Kampala.

Kasiima noted yesterday that the traffic regulations would also apply for the prayers to be held at Nakivubo Stadium in downtown Kampala.

“Motorists are advised to use other roads,” he said. The Police have outlawed parking at the mosque, the stadium and nearby places.

VIPs are to park at the Aga Khan Primary School playground, while vehicles with red stickers will be parked at Mengo SS and Lubiri Secondary School pitches.

Kasiima appealed to travellers to use public means to get to Old Kampala and also warned boda boda riders against parking in restricted areas.

“We shall deploy our men on all roads to guide motorists. Road users must adhere to the above guidelines. We appeal to everybody to cooperate to make the event a success,” he stated.
“Vehicles parked or abandoned by the roadside on the selected roads will be towed away at the owner’s cost.”
