FOR the first time consumers will be able to select and vote for the best manufacturers and service providers in the country.

“Dubbed “Ani mukozi” or the peoples’ verdict, the annual event that starts in May, will bridge the gap between the consumers, producers and service providers, Issa Ssekito one of the brains behind the innovation, said.

Ssekito, also the Kampala City Traders Association publicist, explained that manufacturers and service providers would be awarded.

“Ugandans are suffering because of substandard goods. After this, we shall know the best radio station, best telecom operator, best mineral water, best iron sheet, best hotel, best television, best newspaper, and best beer,” Ssekito said.
He argued that unlike other awards, these ones would give the consumers an opportunity to have a say on the goods or services that they receive.

He said the voting of the best service providers, and manufacturers, shall be done via SMS or by filling a coupon at the trade fair exhibition that shall be conducted a week to the grand event.

“We shall utilise reputable and relevant bodies such as Uganda Revenue Authority, Uganda National Bureau of Standards, National Social Security Fund, Uganda Investment Authority, National Drug Authority and Bank of Uganda to act as judges,” Ssekito disclosed.
He said there would be gold, silver and bronze awards for each category of winners.

“Ugandans are tired of being deceived all the time by businesses that declare themselves the best.We want them to have a say and have value for their money,” he said.
