Sex workers need help

THE ethics and integrity minister, James Nsaba Buturo, has blocked the conference that Akina Mama Wa Africa had planned to get the views of prostitutes working in and around Kampala.

Nsaba buturo is missing the point. It is in such a conference that the NGO could establish the number of prostitutes, what drives them into the business and how they can be counselled to leave the trade.

It is in that same conference where they could be sensitised about the dangers inherent in the trade and how to go about safe sex and so many other pertinent issues.

So my advice to Akina mama wa Africa is that they should call the sex workers again for that conference but this time should not call them prostitutes but unemployed young girls. These girls are risking their lives and need help and understanding.

The real professionals communicate on phone and some of their clients include diplomats, ministers, MPs and so many other clients. Most prostitutes do not stay in the business for ever because they do not do it willingly.
