IF the crowd that thronged Silk Lounge last Thursday was for no other reason but for singer Jose Chameleone’s unplugged (live) music, the singer deserves a nod. The show, Chameleon’s second in as many years, attracted the biggest turn up ever. Fans spilled over into the Lounge’s corridors while Chameleone delivered his electric live performance.

Unlike most shows in Silk Lounge, where artistes sing a few songs with the help of curtain raisers, Chameleone had a one-man show and sang for more than two hours. There was no time wasting by emcees and he sang non-stop till the end.

Chameleone’s arrival to the stage was teasing; he sent his younger brother Hamaton Mayanja, who is his replica. While fans wondered what had happened to Chameleone’s height, the singer showed up dressed like an American cowboy.

He was applauded as he made his way to the stage. Fans, especially ladies were excited. They mobbed him while many others surprised him with appreciation notes, and they frequently handed him notes on stage.

Dressed in a white and black striped suit, he took his fans through his old songs up to the latest hit Katupakase. Since it was a one man show, Chameleone appeared on the stage twice; the first half of his performance took one and a half hours and included his very first songs like Nekolera Mali and Dorotia while the second half consisted of the latest and most popular songs which include Katupakase that thrilled fans the most.

Chameleone sang the late Philly Lutaya’s Nkoyee; and then Paul Kafeero’s songs which sent the crowd into frenzy. Although he performed for three hours, by the time left the stage, everybody was still seated, as if they wanted an encore.
