THE UPDF has moved its 503 Brigade headquarters from Patongo to Labwor-Dwong in Paimol sub-county on the border with Karamoja in an effort to stop cattle rustlers from attacking Pader and Kitgum districts.

The Pader resident district commissioner, Lt. Santo Okot Lapolo, said the brigade was transferred to strengthen the security and boost the Anti-Stock Theft Unit.

He said the Patongo land belonged to displaced persons, who were reclaiming it, adding that Labwor-Dwong was donated to the army by the district administration.

Meanwhile, the district internal security officer, Lt. Isaac Sawe, has said US marines are drilling seven boreholes and rehabilitating two others for UPDF troops and anti-stock theft units in Adilang, Lapono and Paimol sub-counties.

“Our forces deployed to check rustlers were facing a water shortage.”

He said rustlers shot dead Quinto Obote Lumur, brother to Santo Okot, in a recent raid, adding that they made off with 28 head of cattle.

“They first abducted Obote before killing him.”

Sawe said seven rustlers, who tried to sneak into Paimol last Tuesday were killed by the army.

He added that the UPDF troops deployed to back-up the anti-stock theft unit had been ordered to be vigilant and ruthlessly deal with the rustlers.
