Tell me, is Butabika Hospital useless?

Is there no need for the expansion of Butabika? Perhaps our leaders do not see the value of Butabika! The buildings housing the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence used to be part of Mulago Hospital but soon it will be demolished to give way to shops!

Mulago is congested and cannot expand due to negligence and lack of interest from all of us. Do our leaders ever visit the hospital?

I think they go to better hospitals. Everytime I go there I am saddened by the rot and neglect. Mulago is not alone. All Government hospitals and health centres are in the same state. There was a plan in the 1960s/70s to build a special hospital for children in Kampala but nobody talks about it anymore! School land is also gone. Shimoni Demonstration School and Shimoni Teachers College were demolished last year and the students and pupils hurriedly dispersed to give way to a ‘five-star hotel’ which we are still waiting for.

The UTV buildings were destroyed and in the process lots of our valuable archives were lost. The relocation expenses alone would have built a hotel somewhere else!

Should I go on? What is happening? This is a great pity and shame!
