THE national basketball league could not start with a better battle than a fresh encounter between the men’s reigning champions
Mogas Falcons and 2007 regular season winners UCU Canons.

Of course the main reason
the tie is the more gripping of today’s season openers, is the recent history between the two.

The Falcons shocked the much favoured Canons in last year’s playoff semifinals before going on to lift their sixth national title. Falcons’ captain Eric Malinga is sure the Canons are still nursing their wounds. “We are taking the
game very seriously because we know they will have some scores to settle,” he explained.

He however revealed that the defending champions will use the match to settle their own grudge with a few sceptics. He said:
“Some people say that we didn’t deserve to win last year’s title. This gives us a bit of a chance to prove them wrong”.

For his part, Canons’ coach Jason Mehl said he is excited by the opportunity of opening this season
against the very team that ended their campaign last year.

“We have been watching videos of where we went wrong last year because all we care about this year is winning the playoffs,” he
stressed.

In the other game, Sadolin Power will have a chance to test their new
signings when they take on KIU in the other men’s match.

Reigning women’s champions KCC Leopards will seek a winning start to the season when they face KIU
Ladies.
