THE National Forestry Authority (NFA) has realised sh48m in the auction of 11,216 pieces of impounded timber.

The 45th auction at the NFA timber yard at Nakawa on Tuesday, attracted few bidders compared to the previous ones.

The low turn-up was attributed to the high reserved prices set by NFA.

Paul Lunakwita, the NFA timber yard supervisor, said the quality of the timber was low because of poor methods of harvesting by illegal fellers.

“Bidders have not turned up in usual big numbers. We do not know why,” Lunakwita said in an interviwe.

Lunakwita explained that the quality of the timber was deteriorating because it was harvested prematurely.
