There was an outpouring of grief at the funeral service of former minister, Chief Scout and Rotarian, Emmanuel Pinto at Rubaga Cathedral.

Pinto, 65, was killed by his car at his home in Muyenga, Kampala, on April 14.

Condolence messages came from the US, African and European countries. The funeral service was led by Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala assisted by Fr. Archilles Mayanja.
The Prime Minister, Prof. Apolo Nsibambi, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, ministers, diplomats, the Katikiro of Buganda, judges, the Commander of Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Katumba Wamala and MPs were among the mourners

According Nsibambi, Pinto rejected the commercialisation of politics because voters wanted people who would buy coffins, pay school fees and fulfil other demands, or they would vote them out in the next elections.

Kabaka Ronald Mutebi said Pinto played an important role in developing Buganda. His son, Dr. Martin Pinto said his father showed them the road to salvation. Felix Gaetano Pinto, the younger brother of the deceased was overcome with grief and cut his eulogy short.
Pinto taught at St. Cyprians School Lugonza in 1960 and served in many organisations before he went into exile in Kenya in the 1970s. He returned with the NRM and became a Member of Parliament.

In 2001-2007, he was the director of the parliamentary Professional development. He also served on different boards including scouts and rotary movements. There will be a mass today at Rakai district headquarters and therafter burial at Kanabulemu at 2:00pm.
