Kahinda Otafiire is right!

EDITOR—I write in reaction to Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire’s comments on the bible in parliament. Otafiire may be right when you analyse what takes place in Parliament. Most MPs do not stick to what they say.

EDITOR—On Tuesday, Maj. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire is reported to have said that the bible has no place in Parliament. I am sure he was misunderstood and I support him for the following reasons:
lAlmost all the electorate have lost trust in their leaders who promise them heaven on earth during campaigns but do nothing for them when they go to the House.
lMPs accepted sh5m to support the third term ‘project’.
lDespite the suffering of the poor peasants, the MPs were brave enough to ask for posh cars and increased allowances on top of their hefty salaries!
lIt is the same MPs who have legalised the community tax to be paid by any Ugandan earning above
a monthly income of sh100,000 in spite of the spiralling inflation. This was done to replace the graduated tax in return for votes! Based on the above, I am hard pressed to see the relevance of the holy bible in Parliament. Who would still have trust in the Parliament when God’s name is only fronted for selfish reasons? Even the Holy Koran should be kept out of Parliament because Muslims are not any better.

Jesus says that the truth will make us free but when Otafiire says the truth many people are quick to criticise him.

When MPs are swearing in they hold the bible or the Koran but how many demonstrate that they live by the word of God? Even in court the holy books should not be used.
