THE Barclays Premiership trophy, whose journey to Uganda was abruptly halted due to the Ebola outbreak last year, will arrive in the country next month.

Barclays Bank managing director Charity Jinya revealed this on Wednesday evening during the final draw of the Triple Win promotion at Lugogo’s Game.

Five winners that included Elly Biliku, William Ataryeba, Macreens Namaganda, Joy Talikaza and Moses Okore won fully-sponsored trips to watch the live game between Manchester United and West Ham at Old Trafford on May 3.

“We are celebrating our customers winning but we are also proud to announce that we have kept the promise of bringing the coveted trophy to Uganda. We are happy that the trophy will first come to Uganda after the crowning of the Premier League champions,” explained Jinya. She added that the trophy tour will climax with a party at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, with sporting activities that will involve fans of English football.

+A team of Ugandan parliamentarians is set for a soccer match in London against British legislators. The match is set for April 29 at Loan Square, Burton Court at 11am.

Team captain Odonga Otto yesterday said that the team flies out today evening under coach Tom Lwanga.

The match is a return leg of their November 2007 encounter at Nakivubo stadium. The Ugandans won 4-1 against a select team of European parliamentarians.
