A few months ago, we broke the story that Paul Akivembe, the longest serving general manager at Hotel Africana, was leaving the hotel after a seven year period.

We also told you that he was set to join another hotel in Kampala. Well, we have since established that Akivembe, a Kenyan whose experience in the hotel management spans 35 years, has in fact joined another local hotel.

Akivembe, whom we have since heard (but could not confirm) voluntarily threw in the towel at Hotel Africana, is now the new general manager Arch Apartments and Hotel in Kiwatule, off the road to Naalya Housing Estates. However, rather than work for the owners the way he did at Africana, Akivembe is in for a piece of the pie as partner to proprietor, local businesswoman Hajjati Mariam.

We don’t know exactly what Akivembe’s stake in the $1m project is but we hear he turned down lucrative offers to work with Imperial Group of Hotels and Mosa Courts Apartments and instead took this deal.
