A car which was being refilled at Total fuel station in Nsambya caught fire on Tuesday.

The station belongs to the Forum for Democratic party president, Dr. Kizza Besigye. He had visited the station about an hour before the incident.

Isaac Nahumuza, a pump attendant, said the fire started from the engine, when he started refilling the car.

“Two men brought the car and stood aside as I refilled it, but they ran away when the fire started,” Nahumuza said.

Workers intervened with fire extinguishers without success. Deogracius Chalimpa, a special hire operator near the station, said they pushed the car to the roadside to prevent the fire from spreading to the station.

A fire brigade truck arrived a few minutes later.

Luckily, there were neither deaths nor injuries.

By press time, the owner of the grey car and the cause of the fire were not yet known.
