First Lady gives Jinja church sh8m

THE First Lady, Janet Museveni, has donated sh8m towards the renovation of Christ’s Cathedral in Bugembe, Jinja district.

THE First Lady, Janet Museveni, has donated sh8m towards the renovation of Christ’s Cathedral in Bugembe, Jinja district.

The chairman of the building committee, Dr. David Kazungu, announced the donation during an ordination ceremony of 13 clergy last Sunday.

Kazungu said the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, solicited for the money on behalf of Busoga Diocese.

President Yoweri Museveni in 2003 gave the diocese sh10m, which was used to partly repair the dilapidated cathedral.

Bishop Michael Kyomya hailed the Government for the support and also thanked the Christians for their generous contribution towards the renovations.

The dean, the Rev. Can. Daniel Kizza, said about sh200m was required to replace the windows, seats and pulpits, renovate the verandah and repaint the building.

Seven priests and two deacons were ordained.

They included two women Joy Isabirye and Rose Nantongo Mukooba.
