THE Inspector General of Government (IGG) has been asked to investigate the alleged misuse of public funds in Nakawa division. The deputy resident district commissioner, Fred Bamwine, in a letter also wants the IGG’s probe to include the alleged illegal sale of division land in Mutungo.

“I have written to the IGG to investigate all the people involved in the Mutungo land saga. We shall not tolerate this kind of behaviour because at the end of the day it is our people to lose,” Bamwine told journalist at his office recently.

The six-acre piece of land is said to have been given to Mutungo Parish by the former local government minister, Jaberi Bidandi Ssali. Bidandi gave the land to the parish in 2003 after residents requested for it to construct a primary school, health centre and play ground.

The land was allegedly sold to Ezra Transporters and Commercial Agencies, a private company. The letter accuses the division chairman, Protazio Kintu, of involvement in the saga.

However, Kintu dismissed the allegations as baseless, saying there was no way the division could have sold the land because they did not have its title. He added that the district land board was in charge of that piece of land.

The letter also asked the IGG to investigate the awarding of the Nakawa market tender and the borrowing of money, which has led the division into a deficit.
