THE Government has budgeted sh1.5b for the completion of the Kyabazinga’s palace, the Busoga kingdom prime minister, Wasswa Balunywa, has said.

Addressing members of the Busoga Lukiiko (parliament) at Bugembe last week, Balunywa said the works minister, John Nasasira, assured him that the money was included in the next financial budget.

This was in addition to sh1.5b released in the 2007/08 financial year, of which sh600m was spent before the contractor, Mugoya Construction Company, abandoned the work.

Balunywa said the construction of the palace is estimated to cost sh7b and added that another contractor would be identified soon.

He was responding to concerns by the Lukiiko members that during his recent visit to Busoga, President Yoweri Museveni did not talk about the stalled construction of the palace, which he pledged to rebuild in his 2006 campaigns.

Igenge, the official palace of the Kyabazinga Henry Wako Muloki was reportedly destroyed by government soldiers in the 1970s.

Muloki lives at his personal home in Nakabango village, Mafubira sub-county in Jinja.

The meeting, also attended by the deputy prime minister, William Kasango and traditional chiefs, supported a suggestion by Balunywa to set up Bamwoze Recreation Park in Bugembe in recognition of retired Bishop of Busoga, Cyprian Bamwoze’s contribution towards the kingdom.

Members also commended Isabirye Isadaibi, a Kampala-based businessman, for building the Alice Muloki Library in memory of the late Inhebantu, Alice Muloki.
