EDITOR — In a letter published by The New Vision recently, I predicted the accident that took place on Friday in Mukono where five lives were lost.

I blame the Ministry of Works for the loss of lives and for failure to work on the potholes that can cause a disaster.

Surprisingly, immediately after the accident, the very spot was worked on including another pothole that had become a danger to motorists after Bweyogerere, before the Coca Cola plant. When I contacted a friend of mine in the Road Agency Formation Unit, he told me a contractor was fixing the potholes, only to learn that it was the same slow contractor.

I am warning again that a pothole near Namboole Stadium just as you go up the hill from Kireka towards the main entrance to the Stadium, will cause another disaster if not fixed soon.

Let the so-called contractor first work on the dangerous potholes before finishing his work.

Even just opposite Shell petrol station after Banda near the market before reaching Kireka, the water has made the road impassable because of the poor drainage system which the Ministry of works can fix very easily. Do they want the place to first become very bad so that they can have the excuse of getting a contractor for a big job, therefore a big cut?
