CUT- THROAT competition to hire top Chief Executive Officers (CEO) is on the increase as a global trend of sourcing for best managers sky rockets. Uganda is one of the countries which has attracted top CEOs from other countries. A sizable number of organisations are headed by foreigners.

To bridge the gap, a group of professionals are set to revamp the defunct Ugandan branch of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), an international association operating in over 70 countries.

Alison Marie Dillon Kibirige currently a fellow and adviser to ICSA, is the brain behind the re-launch slated for June 4 at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

Alison says revamping ICSA, will give an opportunity to Uganda’s top administrators to share skills and experiences to measure up to international standards.

“We want to improve good governance, capability and skills in areas of senior administration and company secretary. It will help administrators meet international best practices,” Alison said.

Alison is a qualified Chartered secretary with a wide experience in corporate management. She has been involved in company restructuring covering over 100 countries. ICSA is over 100 years old, with a membership of over 36,000. Most of the world’s best CEOs and company secretaries are members of this association. Vision Group CEO, Robert Kabushenga will be the guest speaker at the launch. The CEO ICSA International based in London is also expected to attend the launch.

Alison Marie said the ICSA-Uganda group will be a net-working platform to ensure continuing professional development.

Among the activities of the Group will be a series of workshops for continuing professional development and networking events. At the end of every year, the association will hold an annual award dinner, where best performing professionals will be honoured and awarded. The association will also run a website where most of the information will be put.

In its early stages, the association will also launch a newsletter.

For one to be a member of ICSA — Uganda, one must be registered with ICSA London. To qualify involves going through a certain criteria which includes a series of exams.

“Depending on ones qualifications one may take a number of exams — ranging from a minimum of four and a maximum of 16,” Alison noted.

The exams taken are a combination of law, accountancy and business administration.

The association draws its membership from different professions.
