A.K OILS and Fats Ltd, a subsidiary of the Mukwano Group of Companies, recently held an eye surgical outreach clinic for the Lango region. The clinic was conducted in conjunction with the Lira Referral Hospital.

“This free eye camp is a reward to the people of Lango region for their commitment to Mukwano Agricultural Project during the last three years. We believe in the well-being of our consumers and the society is very important to our activities,” Alykhan Karmali, the Mukwano managing director, said.

Over 500 people from Dokolo, Apac, Oyam and Lira benefited. The project is aimed at helping farmers engaged in sunflower production.

Karmali said the project was implemented in 2003 to promote modern agriculture through the introduction of hybrid sunflower seeds.

The project has created an income generating avenue for over 35,000 contract farmers, improving household incomes by 30% in the past four years, Karmali said.

“It has supported the Prosperity For All programme and resettling the internally displaced people,” Karmali said.
