CRANES skipper Ibrahim Sekagya has won the uganda telecom-USPA sports personality of the month award for May. It is the first ever USPA award for the national team defender.

Sekagya was nominated for scoring the lone goal that ensured a 1-0 win for Uganda over Niger in the 2010 World/Nations Cup qualifier over the weekend. At club level, he plays for Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg.

He collected 535 votes at the scribes’ monthly meeting at Oasis restaurant at Lugogo yesterday ahead of his former club KCC FC (495) and utl-Kobs (455).

The Super League champions (KCC) got nominated for the award after recapturing the title for the first time in a decade while rugby league champions Kobs made the list for retaining the trophy for keeps.

The scribes’ meeting chaired by USPA boss Douglas Mazune, commended SC Villa player Stephen Bengo, Kakungulu Cup holders Victors FC, St Mary’s Kitende and the Rugby Cranes for their excellent performances during the month.

It had 94.8 Vision Voice news editor Charles Odongtho giving the sports journalists tips on investigative reporting.

Members also observed a minute of silence in memory of basketballers Wilbrod Okecho and Kulticia Kobusingye, who died last month.
