TWO Mubende-based businessmen were robbed of about sh2.5m from a lodge in Kibaale district.

According to the district crime chief, Michael Ogwal, four armed thugs on Saturday night raided the lodge at Igayaza trading centre in Kakindo sub-county and took sh950,000 from Martin Kisiwa and sh1.5m from Patrick Lumala.

Ogwal added that the thugs followed the traders from Mubende up to Igayaza trading centre, where they had gone to buy maize.

As the thugs tried to escape, a heavy exchange of fire ensued between them and the Police, resulting in the killing of one of the gangsters, identified as Musa Mukasa.

“During the fire exchange, the thugs shot and injured a resident of the trading centre only identified as Namaga,” Ogwal said.

“We have arrested John Byaruhanga, a boda boda cyclist, who is alleged to have transported the thieves. But three other thugs are still at large.”

The Police recovered two motorcycles suspected to have been used by the gang but no gun was recovered.

Ogwal cautioned the public to be on the lookout because cases of robbery had increased in the district.
