AT the beginning of this year, there were the usual “new acts to watch in 2008” lists going around and one name on every list was Desire Luzinda. Music pundits, who predicted that Luzinda would be one of those to dominate 2008, were spot-on.

Her debut eight-song album, Nkomyewo, features tracks like Mubiite, which is arguably one of the biggest songs of the year. Nkomyewo, the title track, is also popular.

Luzinda says Ikon Records paid her sh30m for the rights to distribute Nkomyewo. The burning question now is: Is Nkomyewo really worth the amount? Well, this is one of the things that many people will seek to find out during the launch of the album at Hotel Africana tonight at 7:00pm.

At the show, Luzinda will have some help from Tanzanian sensation, K-Lyinn, who is popular among Ugandans for her hit single, Crazy Over You.

K-Lyinn began her musical journey in 1998 as one of the lead singers of a band called The Tanzanites.
In 2000, she started modelling and even took part in the Miss Tanzania beauty contest, which she won.

A year later, she recorded her debut solo album, which spawned hits like Nalia kwa Furaha and Nikipita Wangu, which not only made her a household name in Tanzania, but also garnered her adulation across East Africa.

She has since been nominated several times in Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Music Awards and Uganda’s Pearl of Africa Music Awards.

The concert will also feature Juliana Kanyomozi, Bebe Cool, Bobi Wine, Blu3, Jose Chameleone, Sarah Zawedde, Obsessions and Qute Kaye.

Entrance fee is sh15,000 for general and sh50,000 for VIP stands.
