UGANDAN authorities have deported over 28 illegal Rwandan immigrants, reports Darious Magara.

The Kabale resident district commissioner Cox Nyakairu and his Lyantonde counterpart, Isidol Tibamwenda, handed over the immigrants on Saturday at the Katuna border point.

The Rwandan government was represented by the Gatuna border manager, James Mugisha, who received the nationals and thanked the Ugandan government for having kept them safely.

“We thank the Ugandan government for having honoured the protocols on immigrants.”

Nyakairu decried the high rate of illegal immigrants and asked Kigali to help curb the vice.

He also warned local Ugandan officials against aiding illegal immigration by issuing fake permits at border points.

The immigrants were arrested and charged by the magistrate’s court at Lyantonde before they were deported. It is alleged that a Kampala-based businessman lured them with promises of jobs.
