FOURTEEN people have been killed in Moroto district within two weeks following a new wave of insecurity, reports Mike Kidon-Onyang.

The district Police chief, Tom Obong, said most of the people had been killed in rural areas by unknown assailants.

On June 14, three students of MOPSA SS were murdered on their way to the school from their homes in Katikekile sub-county.

The Nadunget sub-county chairman, Raffael Konyen, said five people were shot dead on the night of June 18 at Loputuk village.

“Unknown armed thugs shot at people, who were dancing, killing five instantly and injuring others, who were admitted to Moroto hospital.”

Konyen added that the thugs again attacked the villages the next day, shot one person and injured others.

Cattle rustlers also raided Acerer villages in Matheniko county, killed one person and took off with cattle. The army is still tracking them.

The resident district commissioner, Nahman Ojwee, called for the mobilisation of the community to identify and weed out the criminals.

“However, the UPDF and the Police are containing the situation.”
