KABAROLE district has allocated sh8.2b for staff salaries in the budget estimates of the 2008/2009 financial year. Presenting the estimates to the district council recently, the secretary for finance, Amina Kaija, said the district would spend sh15b this financial year of which staff salaries will account for 53.5%.

She added that the Government had approved five town boards in the district, thus creating a need for more staff.
In the other sectors, works and transport will get sh1.6b, production and marketing sh1.5b, medical services sh1.1b, education and sports sh1b, finance and planning sh338m.

Others sectors catered for are management support service, which was allocated sh849m, natural resources sh66m, community-based services sh253m while council and committee boards will get sh313m.

Kaija also said the district expected to get sh12b from the Government as conditional grants, sh1.7b as unconditional grants, sh1.3b from donors and sh347m from local revenue.

She informed the council, presided over by the speaker, Patrick Lukuya, that in the 2008/2009 financial year, the district would sensitise communities on the importance of paying taxes. Kaija said sh70m had been allocated for mobilising and sensitising the masses.

The woman Member of Parliament for Kabarole, Margaret Muhanga, urged civil servants to effectively account for money received from the Government. She also appealed to the councillors to monitor government programmes in their areas.
