EMMANUEL Nakaana put up a man-of-the match performance as Uganda beat Rwanda by ten wickets in the ICC East Africa region U-17 cricket tournament that started yesterday at the Lugogo Oval.

On the same day, Kenya held their nerve to beat defending champions Tanzania by 100 runs in the other game at Kyambogo.

At Lugogo, Uganda won the toss and put in Rwanda to bat, limiting them to a mere 96 runs with the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 40 overs.

Eric Bunsigizimana (34) and Claude Sibomya (26) were the only Rwandans with double digit figures as Uganda’s bowlers led by Brian Masaba (3/9) and Ahmed Sangau (2/15) went on rampage. They registered 10 maiden overs.

When the chase started, Nakaana, who had also picked one wicket, was free at the crease, hitting 58, including ten boundaries, with opening partner Henry Ssennyondo adding 31, and overhauling their opponents total in the 14th over.

Uganda, sponsored by insurance brokers Alexander Forbes, will now take on Tanzania in their second game at Lugogo oval today.

The event is being played on a league basis.
