Residents of Oburama village in Kihunda parish, Bushenyi district, were on Wednesday shocked to find the body of a mother in a pool of blood and her three children injured.

The district acting criminal investigations officer, Bernard Babu, identified the deceased as Harriet Kabashaho, 35.

The children were identified as Molly Kajoyina, 21, Evelyn, 18 and a seven-year-old boy Dickson Musinguzi.
They were rushed to Mbarara Hospital in critical condition.

Kajoyina, who is in her S.6 vacation, was a part-time teacher at Kihunda Parents’ Secondary School.

Their father, Tom Mubangizi, was not home when the murders attacked.
He lives in Ibanda where he works.
Mubangizi said the assailants also took off with household property.

According to Babu, the the killers might have entered Mubanzizi’s house before his family went to bed. “No part of the house was broken so as to get access to the bedrooms.”

Two mattresses were recovered in a bush, about 2km from his home. Regional Police commander Farouk Muyirima and a team of detectives rushed to the scene with a Police sniffer dog.

By press time, the dog had led the Police detectives to Akahondero trading centre, where a mattress cover with blood stains was found.

The owner of the mattress, Annet Natukwasa, was arrested to help the Police investigate the incident, Babu told journalists. This is the fourth home in Kihunda parish to be attacked and a person killed this year.

“We are confused because all suspected criminals were recently arrested by the Police.

“We are shocked to see the same incident has happened again,” said Jackson Nuwagira, the LCI chairman of Bunyagongo village in Kihunda parish.
