Who will scoop this year’s top VIGA Award?

SILVER Kyagulanyi, Fr. Anthony Musaala, Wasswa Kiyingi and Carol Budhwike will be vying for the honours of the hottest gospel artiste in the land at the second Victoria Gospel Music Awards (VIGA) tomorrow at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

SILVER Kyagulanyi, Fr. Anthony Musaala, Wasswa Kiyingi and Carol Budhwike will be vying for the honours of the hottest gospel artiste in the land at the second Victoria Gospel Music Awards (VIGA) tomorrow at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Last year’s Artiste of The Year, Pastor Wilson Bugembe misses on this year’s nomination list for the top prize, despite his commendable efforts on Komawo Eka, his latest album.
But Bugembe is in contention for the Album of The Year accolade for his successful album Mukama Njagala Kumanya.
Silver Kyagulanyi garnered four nods for his chart-topper, Olunaku Luno, which is currently in heavy rotation on local radio stations. The singer/songwriter contends for the Artiste of The Year, Album of The Year, Best Produced Song and Best Produced Video awards.
Secular artistes Juliana Kanyomozi, Bebe Cool, Junior Matovu and Catherine Kusasira are up for the Best Gospel Artiste (non traditional) award.
Fr. Anthony Musaala has the second highest number of nominations with three, along with Reformed Clan, Daudi Lumu and Annette Mutyaba.
It is not surprising, however, that Judith Babirye, last year’s nominee in the Artiste of the Year category, is not nominated this time considering that she now seems to be the shadow of her former self.
Pastor Martin Ssempa, Archbishop Odama, Pastor Jessica Kayanja and Archbishop Luke Orombi vie for the VIGA Merit Award.
Either Pastor George Okudi, the Golden Gate Choir, Calvary Cross Choir or veteran gospel singer Fiona Mukasa will take home the Lifetime Achievement award.
The gala kicks off at 6:00pm and entrance fee is sh30,000 and sh50,000 for silver and gold. The guest artiste will be Nairobi-based Ugandan gospel singer Ambassador who sang Watoto Inkane.
