Charles Wesley Mumbere is the king of the Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu (Bakonzo/Bamba kingdom), the Kasese LC5 chairman has announced.

Addressing the district council on Monday, the Rev. Julius Kithaghenda, said NRM cadres had established that Mumbere was the legitimate leader of the kingdom.

The resident district commissioner, Capt. James Mwesigye, said: “I am grateful to the Movement cadres for handling this issue maturely.

“I don’t know what the opposition politicians will use during their campaigns because the Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu issue has been settled.”

Mumbere is one of four claimants to the throne of the kingdom whose members inhabit the south-western districts of Kasese and Bundibugyo.

Others are Swaleh Tibamwenda Basikania, Robert Tibamwenda and Ibrahim Makoma.

In 2006, President Yoweri Museveni directed NRM cadres in the two districts to establish the right king to the Bakonzo/Bamba

The team was led by the retired bishop of the South Rwenzori Diocese, Zebedde Masereka.

A Cabinet committee led by Henry Kajura also toured Kasese and Bundibugyo to ascertain the need for the Government to recognise the Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu.
