PADER-Over 38,700 internally displaced people in Pajule sub-county have settled in 25 satellite camps, which are near their villages, according to the area LC3 chairman. Alphonse Omona Lokilamoi told The New Vision that only 5,000 IDPs were still living in the main camps because their villages lacked clean water, schools, hospitals and roads. “The resettlement of IDPs is going on well. I appeal to the government and donors to set up the social facilities we are lacking so that the people, who are stuck in the main camps can return home.”

Amolatar gets water kits
AMOLATAR-The district has received biosand filters, which treat water contaminated with parasites, bacteria and viruses. Joy Drilling, a local charity, donated the filters worth sh80m last week. Pastor Vincent Okeng, the project coordinator, said the project would benefit 8,000 households in Muntu, Naibyata, Kampala and Kitaleba landing sites in Muntu sub-county. He added Life Water International, an American- based organisation, channelled the items through Joy Drilling. “Water is life. I urge the beneficiaries to use the water kits efficiently.”

Man arrested over child abuse
LIRA-A 54-year-old man suspected to have battered his children has been arrested over child abuse. Samuel Okade of Akaidebe village was netted last Friday when the victims reported the matter to Omoro Police post. The head of the post, David Aboro, said Okade was also smoking marijuana. The head of the post warned the parents against battering children, saying it was a violation of their rights.

32 boreholes vandalised
GULU-A total of 32 boreholes in Bungatira, Paicho, Awach, Lakwana, Ongako, Koro, Odek, Lalogi and Palari sub-counties have been vandalised. The district secretary for works, Alex Otim, has said two people were arrested in Ongako sub-county over the vandalism. He identified the suspects as Geoffrey Okema and William Banya of Amalac village in Kweyo parish.
