Driver charged with terrorism

HAKIM ABDUL Kiyemba, a driver, has been charged with terrorism and remanded in Luzira prison. Kiyemba, a driver in Nkokonjeru, Wakiso district was on Wednesday charged at Baganda Road Court.

Magistrate Olive Kazaarwe Mukwaya did not allow him enter a plea, saying the court did not have jurisdiction over the offence. Terrorism can only be tried by the High Court.

Prosecutor Amos Mpaka said Kiyemba and others who are still at large, between 1997 and 2007 engaged in rebel activity with the Allied Democratic Forces, with intent to overthrow the Government.

He said Kiyemba, in several districts in Uganda and abroad, solicited for financial assistance to fund the rebels.

Kazaarwe, remanded Kiyimba until Wednesday when the case will be mentioned.
