The Police have given sh500,000 to each of the families of the six civilians shot dead last Thursday by an LDU soldier in a disco hall in Omiya-Nyima IDP camp, Kitgum district.

The fiasco followed a quarrel over a woman. The northern regional Police commander, P.K. Arinaitwe, on Saturday said the money was handed over by the deputy Police chief, Julius Odwe.

He added that Odwe also handed over sh160,000 to each of the 10 injured persons admitted in St. Joseph Hospital in Kitgum town.

Odwe assured the bereaved families that the law would take its course against the culprits and called for calm.

The UPDF 5th Division publicist, Capt. Deo Akiiki, identified the LDU, who is on the run, as Kenneth Albino Opwonya.

The civilian, who in the same fiasco, picked a gun from a drunken Police constable and shot at people, was identified as Geoffrey Tabu Okot.
