RALLY ace Sam Goosens will end a seven-year sabbatical when he appears in Saturday’s Champion's Sprint at Entebbe Botanical Gardens.

Goosens, who has been away in Belgium, expects his factory prepared Ford Focus model 2004 in Kampala by Friday.

“I had to return to action in a big way. Motor rallying is my life, I knew I would resume racing when I return home,” Goosens, a Ugandan of Belgian origin, stated.

According to Goosens, the Ford that was purchased in Greece arrived at the Mombasa Port over the weekend.

MPU Motorsport president Dusman Okee said that he would assist Goosens to have the tax-free car registered in time for the Champion’s Sprint. Motor rally cars are exempted from tax.

Goosens said he would use the sprint to test the car ahead of the Coronation Rally organised by United Motorsport Club (UMOSPOC) next month.

Goosens who was a mid-level competitor at the height of very competitive rallying in Uganda in the late nineties, is targeting to win the Coronation rally.

The return of Goosens will improve the level of competition in the national championship.

Goosens will be up against 28 other drivers including Alpha Rally Team’s Riyaz Kurji, in a Subaru N 8, and Kenyan Peter Horsey in a Buggey.

Over 30 drivers will compete for the general sprint title during the day. Thereafter, the top 10 will compete for the ‘King of the Night' title.
