THE National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is seeking sh48b for the Gulu-Tochi water supply and sanitation project.

The Gulu manager, Kenneth Musabe, said the project’s design had been done by Gauff Consultant, a Kampala firm.

He said the project would involve development of water intake facilities at Tochi stream, expansion of the water treatment plant and construction of new water reservoir.

Musabe said it would also include replacement and expansion of a new distribution network.
“It will also involve building a new lagoon and expanding the sewerage network.”

He said once the project is completed, the increasing demand for water in Gulu town would be catered for up to the year 2025.
Musabe said the water supply from Oitino dam in Gulu town was not enough.

He said Tochi would have a capacity of about 16,000 cubic meters of water per day.

“We are supplying water to only about 140,000 people in Gulu Municipality. With the completion of the project, we expect our coverage to expand to other areas outside Gulu town.
