U-19 internationals Brian Odongo and Michael Wokorach have been summoned to the Rugby Cranes squad that immediately embarked on training for the Madagascar and Kenya encounters next month.

Odongo who plays for uganda telecom Kobs and Heathens’ Wokorach hope to earn their first caps in the red, black and yellow stripped jersey against Madagascar on August 2 in Kampala. They could also feature in the Elgon Cup return leg away to Kenya on August 16.

Kobs’ Paul Barigye, who was also summoned for the first time, will also be looking forward to his national team debut.

“The young men have consistently impressed so we had to include them in the squad,” coach Yayiro Kasasa remarked.

Kasasa explained that the technical committee this time summoned a 31-man squad because the Confederation of Africa Rugby Cup/2010 IRB World Cup pre-qualifier against Madagascar is just two weeks away from the Elgon Cup return leg.

“The Madagascar game will be hard and in case of any injuries we will have replacements,” Kasasa explained.

Prop Brian Makalama, a darling of many rugby fans who last featured for the Cranes last year, was again left out as competition for his position heightened. Kenneth Mutabaruka was picked to replace him.

The Rugby Cranes squad:
R. Adigasi, K. Mutabaruka, B. Babigamba, B. Ondogo, A. Mubiru, P. Barigye, V. Wadia, M. Soita (vice captain), J. Anguyo, A. Bukenya, R. Mwisaka, R. Seguya, M. Ochwo, S. Ogwete, D. Muyondi, P.
