JACKSON “Action” Asiku is not shaken by the idea of challenging World Boxing Association (WBA) champion Chris John on foreign territory.

“So long as there is fair play, it does not matter where a fight is staged. “I am good enough to surprise Chris John before his home fans,” the Ugandan fighter stated from his base in Australia.
All is set for what will be John’s tenth WBA featherweight defence in his home city of Jakarta, Indonesia.

Asiku, 22 (12) 3-0, was upbeat about the fight that pits two boxers from Australian manager Craig Christian’s stable against each other.

“I got four weeks’ notice for the fight but with the kind of hunger I have for the title, it could have even done with one week,” said the former Commonwealth champion.

John’s camp is already looking beyond the fight to a possible match up with Philippino Manny Pacquiao.

Team Asiku will jet into Jakarta just a week to the fight. “That’s adequate acclimatisation,” noted Asiku.

It will be the third time that Asiku fights in Jakarta. That both earlier outings ended in wins should be a confidence boost for Asiku.

In 2003, he knocked out Moses Seran before returning to the same venue the following year to beat Leed Shabu by a ten-round decision.

+Ugandan boxer Peter ‘Boyz Boyz’ Semo has earned a shot at the World Boxing Council WBC International (WBC-I) lightweight title.

Semo, based in Sweden, will face South African Patrick Malinga for the vacant title. The date and venue are yet to be fixed.

A communication to the Uganda Professional Boxing Commission (UPBC) said WBC-I chairman Mauro Betti has given a go ahead for the Semo - Malinga fight.

The onus is now on Semo’s promoter Eddie Bazira to make sure the fight comes to Kampala so his fighter gets home support advantage.

Semo, 18-2 (13kos), has a great chance to bounce back after losing his IBF-Inter-continental title to Sergey Chedchenko two months ago.

Meanwhile, Hassan ‘The Hitman’ Saku, will defend his ABU welterweight title against South Africa’s Christian Van Heerden on July 25 this year.
The 32-year-old 9-5(8kos), is back after a losing his last three fights this year.
