HAVING only a two-class-room block has not frustrated Bugiri Public Primary School in Katabi sub-county off Entebbe Road from furthering the education of local children.

Didas Bisana, the headteacher, said the school is under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) programme. Started in 2004, the school has 200 pupils and seven teachers.

“We have devised a tactful mechanism that has enabled us to accommodate all the pupils from P.1 to P.7 in only these two rooms. Pupils are receiving quality education despite the insufficient facilities,” Bisana said.

He said the school serves Bukasa and Bugiri zones, where children used to travel a distance of 4km to Namugonde, which is the only government school near the locality.

“As a growing school, we need more classrooms, staffroom, office, store, a modern pit latrine and other scholastic materials, to meet the increasing number of pupils,” he added.

He said the growing number of pupils created a gap, as the Government only caters for four out of the seven teachers. “The rest are being facilitated by the parents,” he said. He said the school receives donations from well-wishers, including the local community and Kawatule Rotarians, who gave the school a 10,000-litre water tank.
