PADER - Security agencies are hunting for armed thugs who ambushed passenger vehicles, robbed sh1.5m from the occupants and injured three of them. The UPDF 5th Division publicist, Capt. Deo Akiiki, said the incident occurred on Tuesday at Lam-Dogi village between Pajule and Corner Kilak in Aruu county. He said Silvano Kirowa was rushed to Pajule health centre in critical condition. Akiiki said the thugs, who were dressed in military uniform, ambushed Kirowa and others as they travelled from Kitgum to Lira town.He added that an unidentified driver of a pick-up truck lost control and rammed into a road pavement when the thugs shot at him.

PADER - A total of eight people have been killed by Karimojong cattle rustlers, the district chairman, Peter Odok W’Oceng, has said. Addressing a district council on Monday, W’Oceng said the deceased were residents of Agago county, which neighbours Kotido district. “The Government is disarming the Karimojong but some notorious cattle rustlers, called the Karasunas, are hiding in the bushes.”

LC5 chief sues council
AMOLATAR - The LC5 chairman, Alfred Adoli Ogwok, has sued the Attorney General and the district council for refusing to approve his deputy Ebong Epia. Through Katuntu and Co. Advocates, Adoli said the council contravened the Local Government Act that empowers him to appoint the executive committee. Adoli wants the Constitutional Court to order the council to approve Epia.

200 arrested in swoop
GULU - Over 200 people, including nine army deserters, were arrested by the Police and other security agencies. The exercise, which was aimed at ridding the district of criminals, was conducted on Tuesday night. The district Police commander, Yasin Ndimwibo, said the majority of the suspects were found in Pece, Laroo, Bar-Dege and Layibi divisions.
