THE Mengo establishment is to set up a forum that will bring together intellectuals to discuss the progress of the kingdom.

Former presidential candidate Abed Bwanika and former Luweero district chief Abdu Nadduli made the proposal that was unanimously supported during the Buganda Conference.

“We shall ask Bwanika and Nadduli to be on the committee that will discuss the activities of the forum,” said David Mpanga, the kingdom’s legal adviser.

The Buganda Conference, which was convened at Hotel Africana in Kampala last week, was the first of its kind.

It discussed the aspirations and development plans of the kingdom.

Renowned political scientist Prof. Ali Mazrui, Prof. Frederick Ssempebwa, Prof. F.W Jjuuko and Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga were among the people who attended the conference.

Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi urged the organisers to make it an annual event.

It was resolved that the Baganda be united regardless of their political and religious inclinations.

They agreed to maintain Buganda’s stand on the proposed Land Amendment Bill.
