KAMPALA Kids League (KKL) U-16 team were this time unlucky as they were edged 1-0 by Swedish side Hammarby IF in the final of Football Festival Denmark on Saturday.

For the past three years KKL have beaten the academy team from Stockholm in the final of the Gothia World Youth Cup. KKL settled for silver medals.

Uganda was yet again on the podium when the Uganda Youth Soccer Academy (UYSA) won bronze when the saw off Danish side Farum 3-1 in the U-14 third place play-off. Earnest Luboobi (brace) and another strike by Ivan Ndiike secured victory for the Ugandans.

On Saturday, Hammarby came determined not to lose and their solid defence frustrated wave after wave of Ugandan attacks in a highly entertaining game that climaxed the end of the Football Festival. A total of 150 teams took part.

The only Hammarby goal came from striker Rojas just before half time when he latched onto a cross from the right to place the ball into the far corner of the net.

KKL took control of the game playing some exhilarating football but could not pierce the Swedish defence in which goalkeeper Larsson was in impressive form.

KKL now move on to Amsterdam, Holland where they are being hosted by Nike for training and a visit to PSV Eindhoven.

The UYSA team will meanwhile return on Wednesday evening aboard SN Brussels flight. The team, which was on its maiden Europe tour, received assistance from FUFA presidential aspirant Patrick Isiagi and was led by the academy director Ivan Kakembo.
